CEM-style assessments place greater emphasis on vocabulary, speed, reasoning and problem solving than the standard GL format.

Question types often vary within a single paper, and unfamiliar or advanced vocabulary is used deliberately — the format tends to reward children who read widely, rather than children who have only memorised a fixed pattern of question types.

Because question styles vary more than GL, broad practice across many formats matters more than repetition of one fixed style.
